Privacy policy
The short version: when you ask for a quote, we text you to confirm the job, then pass your name, number and job to no more than 2 local pros. We never sell your information, and you can see, fix or delete it any time.
Who we are
LocalGoingRate (localgoingrate.com) is run by OuterMark Group Pty Ltd, ACN 699 247 277, Level 1, 446 Oxford St, Bondi Junction NSW 2022, Australia. We serve people and businesses in the United States only. In this policy, "we" and "us" means OuterMark Group Pty Ltd. Questions: hello@localgoingrate.com.
What we collect
- When you upload a quote to Quote Intelligence: we privately retain the original PDF or image (which may contain names, contact details or addresses), the AI-extracted job, pricing and contractor data, public-web findings, scores, recommendations and subsequent corrections. This gives Casey context for follow-up questions and lets us improve the product.
- When you ask for a quote: your first name, ZIP code, city, mobile number, email if you give one, the job, budget and timing you pick, and the page you were on. We also keep the exact consent wording you saw, when you agreed, and your IP address and browser.
- When you chat with Casey on the website: the site stores the question and Casey’s response privately on our server for follow-up assistance and product improvement, including the associated quote report ID if one is attached. Your recent conversation and summary are also kept in this browser for seven days. Clearing chat removes the browser copy and detaches the report; it does not remove server-side records. Contact us to request deletion. Messages and relevant quote context are sent to OpenAI to answer. Please do not enter unnecessary sensitive details.
- When you text our assistant (Casey): what you send us and what we send you.
- When a contractor signs up: name, business name, phone, email, website, trade, city and the consent wording they agreed to. Payments go through Stripe. We never see full card numbers; Stripe tells us the card type, last four digits and billing address (for sales tax).
- About contractors who haven't signed up: business name, business phone, website, business email and address, from public sources: open map data published by the Overture Maps Foundation, and the business's own website. We use this only to tell them about jobs near them, by text or email.
- Automatically: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed and the page that sent you, in our server logs.
- Cookies: see "Cookies, analytics and ads" below.
How we use it
- To save uploaded quotes, comparison reports and Casey conversation transcripts for follow-up assistance, quality analysis and service improvements.
- To confirm your request by text, then send it to up to 2 local pros for that trade, who may call or text you about that job.
- To run the pro side: job alerts, payments, sales tax, receipts and refunds.
- To tell local contractors about jobs near them, by text or email. Only the up to 2 pros who get your job ever see your name and number.
- To stop spam, fake requests and fraud, and to keep the site secure.
- To count visits and improve the site.
- To keep records the law requires, and to answer lawful requests.
Who we share it with
- Our AI provider (OpenAI): uploaded PDFs/images and related report context are processed to understand and compare estimates, and Casey conversations are sent to OpenAI to produce answers. Quote documents may include personal information written in the original file.
- The pros who get your job: no more than 2 (just one if a pro holds your city for that trade). They are independent businesses. They use your details to quote your job, and their own privacy policies cover what they do after that. Sending your request to them is something you ask us to do, so it is not a "sale" of your information.
- Companies that work for us under contract: our web host and private storage provider (including Amazon S3 when configured), Twilio (texts and number checks), SendGrid (email), Stripe (payments and sales tax), Google (site analytics, if on) and Meta (ad measurement, if on). They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- The law: when a court, regulator or law requires it, or to protect someone's safety or our rights.
- A new owner: if LocalGoingRate is sold or merged, under this same policy.
- We don't sell your information. We don't share your mobile number, your text opt-in or your consent with anyone for their marketing, and we never send your details to a call center or lead reseller.
Text messages
If you ask for a quote, Casey texts you to confirm the job, and the pros who get it may call or text you about it. Pros who sign up get job texts. A local pro who hasn't signed up may get a text about a job near them, and nothing more unless they reply YES. How often depends on how many requests come in. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop, or HELP for help. You never have to agree to texts to buy anything. The full terms are on our SMS terms page.
Your text opt-in and consent records are never shared with or sold to anyone. Your number goes only to the pros who get your job, because that is the request you made.
Cookies, analytics and ads
- Needed to work: a sign-in cookie for pros, a random private archive token to match your uploaded quote report to your Casey chat, and a note in your browser if you opt out (below).
- Analytics: if switched on, Google Analytics counts visits and which pages are used. We turn off Google signals and ad personalization.
- Ad measurement: if switched on, the Meta Pixel tells us when someone who saw our ads visits or asks for a quote. It never loads for anyone who opts out or whose browser sends Global Privacy Control.
- Some state laws call ad pixels "sharing" or "targeted advertising". You can opt out of both below. We don't use any other trackers.
Your privacy choices
Opt out of the sale or sharing of your information and of targeted advertising for this browser:
Global Privacy Control: if your browser or extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out, in every state. Do Not Track: browsers don't agree on what it means, so we go by GPC instead.
To opt out everywhere, including for your phone number, email hello@localgoingrate.com with the subject "Opt out".
Stored quote documents and chat transcripts
We keep uploaded original documents, report results and Casey transcript records in private server storage until you request deletion or our configured retention policies require removal. Encrypted S3 storage may also be used. Request access or deletion by emailing hello@localgoingrate.com with the subject “Privacy request”. Reports are not public and are not automatically sent to contractors.
Your rights, in every state
State laws give residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and other states privacy rights. We give the same rights to everyone in the US, whatever state you live in:
- Know and access: what we hold about you, where it came from, why we have it and who we gave it to, and a copy you can take elsewhere.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete what we hold (we keep only what the law makes us keep, like payment records).
- Opt out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising (above). We don't use your information for profiling or automated decisions about you, and we don't collect sensitive information like health, precise location or ID numbers.
- No penalty: using your rights never changes the price or service you get.
How to make a request
Email hello@localgoingrate.com with the subject "Privacy request", what you want, and the phone number or email you used with us. To protect you, we check it's really you, usually by texting a code to that number or replying from that email. Someone you authorize can ask for you with your signed permission. We answer within 45 days (if we need longer, up to 45 more, we'll tell you why).
Appeals: if we say no, reply "Appeal" within 45 days and someone else here will review it within 45 days. If we still say no, you can complain to your state attorney general.
Nevada: we don't sell covered information, and you can still email us to opt out. California "Shine the Light": we don't share your information with anyone for their own direct marketing.
California notice (last 12 months)
- Identifiers and contact details (name, phone, email, IP address): from you and your device. Used to confirm and pass on your request, run accounts and stop fraud. Given to the pros you asked for and our service providers.
- Customer records (name, phone, ZIP): as above.
- Commercial information (the jobs you asked about; for pros, the leads you bought): from you. Used to provide the service and billing.
- Internet activity (pages viewed, analytics): from your device. Used to run and improve the site; ad pixel data may count as "sharing" (opt out above).
- Rough location (city and ZIP you give us). We don't collect precise location.
- Business contact details of contractors: from public map data and their websites. Used to tell them about jobs.
- We don't sell personal information and have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing information of anyone under 16. We don't collect sensitive personal information.
How long we keep it
- Quote requests and texts: names, emails and text wording are deleted 24 months after the request. The consent record (number, wording, time, IP, page) is kept for 5 years, because claims about calls and texts can be brought for 4 years, then deleted. The job, trade, city and ZIP stay as anonymous price data.
- Pro accounts: while the account is open, then 7 years for tax and payment records.
- Contractors' business details from public sources: until they opt out or we stop using them. If they opt out, we keep their email only to make sure we never email them again.
- Server logs: up to 90 days. Backups: replaced on a rolling basis within 14 days.
Security
The site runs on HTTPS, access to data is limited to the people who need it, admin areas are password protected, and card payments are handled by Stripe, which is certified to PCI DSS Level 1. No system is perfect, so we can't promise nothing will ever go wrong. If a breach affects you, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Children
LocalGoingRate is for adults. You must be 18 or older to ask for a quote or sign up as a pro. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child gave us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Where your information is kept
Your information is stored with our web host and the providers listed above, which may store it in the United States or other countries. Our team works from Australia. Wherever it's kept, this policy applies.
Other sites
Pros' websites and other sites we link to have their own privacy policies. We're not responsible for them.
Changes
We'll post any change here with a new date. If a change matters, we'll also show a notice on the site, or email pros, before it takes effect.
