Common pest control jobs and what they cost (2026)

Most pest jobs are priced by the visit or the job. A general visit runs $150–$550, a wasp nest $125–$800, and a termite barrier $800–$3,000. Where a cost guide gives a time, it's in brackets.

06 / Your optionscompared

One-time visit vs quarterly plan vs monthly plan

The right choice depends on whether the bugs will come back. Here's how the three compare for a typical 1,500–2,000 sq ft home.

FactorOne-time visitQuarterly planMonthly plan
Price per visit$150–$550$100–$300 after a $150–$300 first visit$40–$75 after a first visit
Cost for a yearOne visit; pay again if they come back$450–$1,200 the first year, $400–$1,200 after$480–$900

ContractNoneCan be 12 months; check how it renewsCan be 12 months; check how it renews
Best forOne problem you don't expect backMost houses with seasonal bugsHeavy roach problems, apartments, restaurants

Quarterly is the usual pick for a house. Go monthly only for a stubborn indoor problem, and one-time when it's a single nest or trail.

07 / Beyond the jobextras

Recurring costs: what pest protection costs a year

Most homes need nothing beyond a plan. Termite protection and mosquito seasons are the common add-ons.

ItemLowTypicalHigh
Quarterly general pest plan, first year$450$650$1,200
Quarterly plan, each year after$400$600$1,200
Monthly plan, per year$480$660$900
Termite bond or plan renewal$200$450$1,000
Termite bait monitoring$200$300$400
Mosquito season, 5 yard visits (common in the South)$375$675$1,000

A termite renewal at about $450 a year is cheap next to repairs that run $600–$3,000, and home insurance usually doesn't pay for termite damage.

08 / What moves the priceUSA

What affects pest control costs

The pest

Common bugs are quick: ants run $100–$400. Bed bugs ($300–$800 a room) and termites ($800–$3,000 for a barrier) take special products and more time.

Home size

Most companies price by square footage. One visit runs about $120–$450 for 1,000 sq ft and $200–$750 for 3,000 sq ft.

How bad it is

A small, early problem is one visit. Heavy roach, flea, rodent or bed bug problems need follow-ups, and each one adds to the bill.

One visit or a plan

Plan visits cost $100–$300 a quarter or $40–$75 a month after a $150–$300 start, against $150–$550 for a one-off.

Termite type and climate

Warm, humid states see more termites and year-round bugs. Drywood termites often mean tenting; Formosan termites, found across Florida and the Gulf Coast, Hawaii and Southern California, build colonies of several million.

Your city

Local costs move the price a lot. Angi's city figures run about 50% above its national ones in New York City and a little over half of them in Phoenix; on our city pages the typical visit runs from $170 in Phoenix to $450 in New York.

09 / How to pay lessUSA

How to save on pest control

  1. Get a free inspection. Most big companies inspect free when it isn't for a home sale. Get the pest named and the plan in writing first.
  2. Fix what lets them in.Seal gaps, fix leaks and move mulch and firewood away from the house. Sealing mouse gaps ($200–$1,500) costs less than trapping every fall.
  3. Skip the contract for one-offs.A wasp nest ($125–$800) or ant trail ($100–$400) doesn't need a year-long plan.
  4. Read the cancel terms. Some plans run a full year. Ask how to cancel and whether the first-visit discount gets charged back.
  5. Bundle termite and general pest.A combined plan often costs less than two. A termite renewal alone is $200–$1,000 a year.
  6. Get two quotes for big jobs. For bed bugs ($1,500–$6,000 whole home) or termites, ask two companies for the same scope and warranty.

Pest control cost in the USA by home size

Quick answer

A one-time visit is about $120–$450 for a 1,000 sq ft home, $150–$550 for 1,500–2,000 sq ft, and $200–$750 for 3,000 sq ft.

Worked example: a 2,000 sq ft home on a quarterly plan pays $200 for the first visit and $150 for each of three more, about $650 for the first year. Five mosquito yard visits at $135 add $675.

Termite work is priced by the length of the foundation instead of square footage: at $4–$16 a linear foot, a 175-ft perimeter comes to about $700–$2,800 for a liquid barrier.

What a pest control quote should include

A real pest control quote answers all of these. If it answers fewer than six, ask before you sign.

  • The company's state license number and proof of insurance
  • Which pests are covered, and which cost extra
  • Inside, outside or both, and the home size the price assumes
  • The products to be used, and any prep or time out of the home
  • How many visits, and the price of each
  • Free return visits between services: yes or no
  • For termites: the treatment type, the linear feet or volume, and the warranty
  • Whether a termite warranty covers retreatment only or repairs too
  • Contract length, auto-renewal, price rises and how to cancel
12 / QuestionsUSA

Pest control cost: FAQ

How much does pest control cost?

$150–$550 for a one-time visit inside and out in 2026, with $300 typical for a 1,500–2,000 sq ft home. A small, simple job in a cheap market can be about $75; a big home in a pricey city can reach $900.

How much does a quarterly pest control plan cost?

$100–$300 a visit after a $150–$300 first visit, about $450–$1,200 for the first year.

How much is monthly pest control?

$40–$75 a visit, or $480–$900 a year. It's mainly for heavy roach problems and apartments.

How much does termite treatment cost?

A liquid barrier runs $800–$3,000, bait stations $1,000–$2,500, and tent fumigation $1,500–$5,000. One small area can be spot-treated for $250–$1,200.

How much is a termite inspection?

Often free when it isn't for a home sale. Otherwise $75–$300, and $50–$225 for a WDI report for a sale.

How much does bed bug treatment cost?

$300–$800 for one room and $1,500–$6,000 for a whole-home heat treatment.

How much does it cost to get rid of mice?

$150–$650 for trapping or bait with follow-ups, plus $200–$1,500 to seal the gaps they use.

How much does wasp nest removal cost?

$125–$800 per nest; yellow jackets and nests in walls cost the most.

Do pest control companies need a license?

The people who apply the strongest products do. Every state runs a program to certify pesticide applicators. Under EPA rules, restricted-use pesticides may only be applied by a certified applicator or someone under one's direct supervision, and fumigation needs its own extra certification. Ask for the company's state license or certification number.

Has pest control gotten more expensive in 2026?

A little. We don't have a national price series, but the median pay for pest control workers rose about 1.2% from May 2024 to May 2025 in federal data, and labor is most of the bill. The typical one-time visit on our pages is $300.
