Does single item junk removal cost change by city?
Yes. The same job costs more where labor and rent cost more. Here's how junk removal prices in the biggest US metros compare with the US typical of $400.

Even one couch means a truck, two people, fuel and a trip to the dump. That's why most haulers have a minimum charge of $60–$175. A second small item often adds little, so clear out anything else you can in the same visit.
02
Items that cost more
Refrigerators, freezers and window AC units cost more ($75–$220) because the refrigerant has to be removed before they're scrapped. Pianos ($200–$600) are heavy and awkward, and stairs push them to the top of the range.
Hot tubs ($200–$800) have to be cut apart first. Mattresses and tires carry dump fees in many places, and TVs and computers often have to go to an electronics recycler.

Free and cheap options
Many cities pick up bulky items at the curb. Los Angeles takes couches, mattresses, carpet and TVs from homes of one to four units for free, and New York collects furniture and bagged mattresses at the curb.
Retailers often take the old one when they deliver a new one: Best Buy charges $49.99 to haul away an appliance or TV with a delivery. Charities may pick up furniture in good shape for free.
