Does upholstery and rug cleaning cost change by city?
Yes. The same job costs more where labor and rent cost more. Here's how carpet cleaning prices in the biggest US metros compare with the US typical of $200.

Most sofas have a tag with a cleaning code. W means water-based cleaning is fine. S means solvent only, no water. WS or SW means either. X means vacuum only at home: no water or solvent cleaners, and leave anything deeper to a pro. Tell the cleaner the code when you ask for a price.
Leather costs more to clean, often $150–$400 a piece, because it needs special products and more care.
02
What drives the price
Size first: a chair is $40–$100, a sofa $100–$275, a sectional $150–$450. Then the fabric, how dirty it is, and pet hair or urine. Many companies have a minimum visit charge, so a single chair often costs about the same as a sofa.
Bundling helps. If the crew is already there for the carpet, a sofa costs the same $100–$275 but there's no second trip or minimum to pay.

Compare
Rugs: in your home or at the plant
Nylon and polyester rugs can be cleaned in your home like carpet, about $80–$200 for an 8 × 10. Wool, silk and hand-knotted Oriental rugs are better washed at a rug plant, which usually keeps the rug for a day to a week so it can be washed and dried properly. That runs $3–$8 a square foot, about $240–$640 for a wool 8 × 10.
Pickup and delivery adds about $25–$50 if the company doesn't include it. Fringe repair and moth treatment are extra.
04
Mattresses
A queen mattress runs about $60–$160. Ask what method they use, so the mattress isn't soaked.
