$1,150–$2,700 installed in 2026, and about $1,750 is typical. That covers the $585 Wall Connector ($660 for the Universal model), a 60-amp circuit near the panel, the hookup and the permit. A long run pushes it to $2,000–$4,500, and a panel upgrade adds $1,500–$4,500.

Does tesla wall connector installation cost change by city?
Yes. The same job costs more where labor and rent cost more. Here's how EV charger prices in the biggest US metros compare with the US typical of $1700.
EV charger prices in the 12 biggest US metrosEach city's typical EV charger price against the US typical of $1,700.
The charger price is fixed: $585 for the Wall Connector or $660 for the Universal model on Tesla's US shop in November 2026. Everything else is labor and materials, and that part moves with distance and panel room. A short run from a panel with room for a 60-amp breaker keeps the job near $1,750.
The Wall Connector charges at up to 48 amps, about 44 miles of range an hour on cars that accept it. That needs a 60-amp circuit and heavier wire. Tesla lists several Model 3 and Model Y trims at 32 amps at most, so a smaller circuit can be enough and cheaper.

Compare
Wall Connector or Universal Wall Connector
The standard Wall Connector ($585) has a NACS plug, the Tesla-style connector now used by many other brands too. The Universal Wall Connector ($660) also charges cars with the older J1772 port, which helps if a second EV in the house is not a Tesla.
Tesla's shop says both models need Tesla vehicle ownership to buy. Install cost is the same for either one.
03
Panel room and load management
Ask for a load calculation before you agree to a price. If the panel can't take a 60-amp circuit, a load management device ($400–$1,500) or turning the charger down to a 40-amp circuit is often enough. A 200-amp panel upgrade costs $1,500–$4,500 and may need the utility to change the meter.
Two Teslas? Wall Connectors can share one circuit and split the power between cars. A second unit set up that way runs $1,000–$3,000, often less than a second 60-amp circuit.

Watch out
Permits, setup and red flags
A new 240-volt circuit needs an electrical permit and inspection in most US cities ($50–$350, up to $700 in a few cities). The electrician sets the charger's breaker size during setup, and the inspector checks that it matches the breaker.
Red flags: a quote that skips the load calculation, a 48-amp setting on a 50-amp breaker, or no permit. The federal 30C home charger credit ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026, so ignore any quote that still promises a federal credit.

Tesla Wall Connector installation cost: FAQ
How much does a Tesla Wall Connector cost with installation?
$1,150–$2,700 near the panel, about $1,750 typical, including the $585 charger and the permit. Long runs cost $2,000–$4,500.
What size breaker does a Tesla Wall Connector need?
A 60-amp breaker for the full 48 amps. It can also run on a smaller circuit, such as 40 or 50 amps, at a lower charging speed. The electrician sets the matching limit during setup.
Can a non-Tesla EV use a Wall Connector?
The standard Wall Connector works with cars that have a NACS port. The Universal Wall Connector ($660) also charges J1772 cars, so it suits a mixed-brand garage.
Can I install a Tesla Wall Connector myself?
It is a 240-volt circuit that needs a permit and inspection in most US cities, and many require a licensed electrician to do the work. Check your city's rules before you start.
Is there a tax credit for a Tesla Wall Connector?
No longer. The federal 30C home charger credit ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026. Some utilities still pay rebates or bill credits, so check yours before the install.
These are independent estimates from national cost guides, installer price data, charger list prices, utility program pages and local electricians' published prices. No installer can pay to change them, so always get a couple of quotes. Last reviewed November 2026. Read the full methodology →
