Plain steel is the cheapest and most common. Stepping up to an insulated door adds $150–$600; an insulated double costs $1,700–$4,000 installed. Insulated doors run about R-6 to R-18.

In Florida a new garage door must meet the state building code's wind rating for the opening. In Miami-Dade and Broward, the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, every door must also carry the large-missile impact rating, and a Miami-Dade permit needs the door's product approval.
A South Florida installer's 2026 prices: impact-rated doors run $3,500–$6,000 for a single and $5,500–$9,500 for a double; HVHZ doors $4,500–$7,500 and $7,000–$12,000. Permits there run $150–$500.
Installed prices cover the door, tracks, springs, hardware and labor. Removal of the old door is often included, but not always, so ask. If you buy the door yourself, labor alone is $200–$700, and haul-away $50–$250 when it's charged separately.
A new opener is extra: $300–$900 installed. In California a new door can't be connected to an old opener that lacks battery backup.

It estimated the project added $12,507 in resale value, about 268% of its cost, the best return of any project in the report.
If the door is sound, though, a repair at $150–$550 costs far less. Replace the door when panels are cracked, rotted or no longer made.
